My Grocery Store Saga

I had a system. HAD being the operative word here. I was very proud of the fact that I could bring all three children grocery shopping with me and they were reasonably well behaved. I’ve actually even had someone call me the “mommy whisperer” as result of this impressive feat. And then, my husband ruined it….just like that. In the past I would put Tyler in the front of the cart with a cup full of snacks. Logan sat in the cart and Cody stood on the back or walked next to the cart. We’d also eventually graduated to the special “car carts” that most supermarkets...

We Are the Laurie Berkner Band

I have two words for you…..Laurie Berkner!  Those of you who don’t know who she is, Laurie Berkner is the Sheryl Crow for kids.  She is a guitar player/singer/songwriter and kids seriously dig her music.  She sings songs like (some of our favorites): We Are the Dinosaurs, Pig on her Head, Victor Vito, I’m Gonna Catch You and Rocketship Run.  (I could really keep going on and on with the list of our favorite songs, there are so many!)  The Laurie Berkner band consists of a keyboard player named Susie, bass guitarist Adam, drummer Bobby and of course, Laurie. ...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all of my family, friends and readers! Like many of you, I’m sure; I’m looking forward to the fresh start and all of the changes in store for me in the upcoming year. I feel like I’ve learned so much this year, about myself, my relationships and what is important to me in life. I have a feeling that 2012 has lots of changes and adventure in store for me, and am so excited to welcome the New Year in. Our New Year’s Eve plans tend to be pretty tame and low-key now that we have kids. The days of hangovers, drinking games and falling down the stairs...

Post Christmas

The last time I wrote I was worried about how to spend our week off together, and now here it is Friday already! I shouldn’t have worried at all; the week has absolutely flown by. When I was teaching I always felt this was the quickest break. It’s such a whirlwind of activity; visiting with relatives, giving and receiving gifts, returning gifts, and then putting away and de-cluttering your house once things have settled down a bit. Soon the kiddos will all be heading back to school. As much as I’ve enjoyed all of this family time, I will be relieved to fall back into...

Merry Christmas!

It’s really here…just a few days to go now. The tree is decorated, the stockings are hung and the gifts are all wrapped. Somehow, we pulled it together this year. Last night, my husband and I finished assembling some of the larger gifts that Santa will be bringing this year. We put together a really great tee pee from the Land of Nod, that both of the older boys asked for. We also had a car race track to assemble. These are the gifts that would be difficult to hide once assembled. The rest of the gifts are hidden inside an armoire and then behind a couch in the...
